So fast? I didn't buy GW2 because some things raised doubts, and the reception has been somewhat... unenthusiastic, but really, there's that much population decline?

No, it isn't dead. I don't know what iceblue is on about. The game is very much alive.

Once again, please stay on topic. This is not a thread about gw2, nor whether its doing well or not.

We are discussing a possible expanion for guildwars the original game.

It's not about the players anymore but how much of a cash cow their game can be so I highly doubt GW1 will ever get a new expansion although it would certainly be amazing.

It just wouldn't be popular enough to be worth it for them.

Wish they would still put out expansions - heck EverQuest is *STILL* getting expansions but I understand ANet is a small group so it does make sense. Well we can all hope&dream.

psst, ANET! I just came back to GW (from GW2) a couple weeks ago, and I already bought another character slot and a storage slot here.

If you make more expansions, I promise to keep giving you monies!

we probably should wait for a response from Anet, once GW2 is going like it should be, then some more devs may return to GW, and their resources could be high enough to create more for GW, so they got 2 games going on

also, i havent quit yet, i'm even buying a char slot and merc slot to create 1 wintersday based char, lol

if Anet's doing well, it wont be the question "is it possible to get a GW expansion?", but it would be "will they sell us another GW expansion?"

if they would, i wouldnt mind having an offtopic one, not doing more with GW and/or GW2's lores, but 1 more made to have fun in (and enemies on HM having pve-only skills, lol)

but it all depends on how well their resources go

and of course the amount on GW players, as they have to sell it (giving away is nice, but would make it harder for their own resources) to as many as people as they can

i know several people playing both or just GW2 for a long time may also return, but since GW2 is growing and gets expansions (maybe even campaigns), its hard to see them return for GW while getting more for GW2

so it DOES matter what happens with Anet's money with both GW and GW2
its also the only reason i hope GW2 goes great (much better than it goes now), so that GW gets more also, as i dont care about GW2 for myself

but i have faith in them, and they may reply to this question, about whether or not it COULD happen, i've seen john stumme answer questions people had about GW

so... to increase the chance, everyone who likes GW and will still pay for GW stuff "let friends/other people you see in RL and/or internet, know that GW still can be fun when finding enough friends and/or nice guilds

i think Anet should somehow "announce" that GW will keep going, and is being worked on, once GW2 has enough to let them reduce the GW2 dev team to make the GW dev team some bigger

i guess we gotta wait for that time, but i have faith in them (and its the only MMO team i have this much faith in), as stumme has done alot good to GW before GW2 got released

it will be some time before they have time for gw again (the devs), there are TONS of issues still to be addressed with the other game.

I, too, have been keeping their coffers full--just added the trilogy onto my prophecies only account..enjoying starting new characters in factions and nightfall (heck, I just enjoy making new characters!!!).

so yeah, this game is still active, and from the amount of peeps I see in kamadan and eye--there are still quite a few playing this game (for whatever reason).

I just "finished" taking a 3 month old Ranger thru all 3 chapters and EotN. I said it would be the last one. Guess I lied. Also working a warrior thru Prophesies, about half of NF and about half of EotN. Just brought a monk across from pre and started an Ele in pre. Guess I like the new character feel.

Bring on a new expansion. Keep it under $30 and I will jump right in. Depending on the cost, a full blown new chapter could be a go, too.

Right now I'm working on my third GWAMM so this game still holds a lot of interest for me. If an expansion came out it would be a good bet I'd be buying it.

It all depends if the CMs are reading these boards as they are hidden and if the money you infest in this game stays in it or goes that other game #2.I still want my 4 annivsary slot openned but my money is on this out lasting that other game #2.

I am still waiting for the Monk update with smiting buffing protection would be nice.

it would be awesome if they make new expansion or new content for GW1 i miss it.

Where are you getting these negatives reviews from? (If you're getting it from this site, of course those opinions are gonna be Biased) GW2 is a great game and should definitely try it, it has gotten plenty of great reviews. but if you're expecting the same game as gw1, than your probably gonna be disappointed.

GW2 isn't dead, it very well alive and populated.

Haha sure, in LA because everyones grinding fractals since they added a gear grind. The world is about as dead as your own instance in GW1 when soloing.

GW2 is all hype in truth it's very boring and stale imo, wouldn't be the first time game reviewers were paid off either.

GW2 is not the expansion, but the downfall of GW1.

You can see the health of the game by looking at the black market. Gw1 stack of ecto goes for roughly 10 bucks now a days. In gw2 200g is about equivalent currency wise which goes for 70 dollars. I think that alone should give you an idea about how popular gw2 is because no one wastes real money on virtual cash in a dead game.

Gw1 will not get any expansions and it would be a miracle to even get a paragon or ranger update. If you have hope for new gw1 content the only hope is gw lan projects with user made content.

Gw2 is at a critical point right now. If it doesn't fix some of the severe bugs and unfinished content it will be a very dead game. It is a make it break it point kind of like how sorrow's furnace and topk got the community together back in the day.

I would definitely pay for an expansion or campaign for GW1, at this point I wish they had never made GW2.

I admit it, I was on a low NA population server, playing European hours and I don't belong to a guild. However, I'm not the only one who has said that they are already bored with GW2, they can't group up with others to do dungeons, and that the game is dead, they can't find players to do Orr with, etc. etc. etc.... all you need to do is go over to the GW2guru forums and you'll see what I'm talking about...

In any event, I have "discovered" this new site GW2LFG.com and since then things have been better and I've been playing GW2 more.

Edit: Back to the OP's original question. I also wish GW1 would have more expansions. I'm very much into the lore. But I think with GW2 out, they will put the lore into that game.

What I would like to see, since this would be more possible to do with GW1 than with GW2, IMHO, is to travel back in time, like they did with the April's fool event, and meet Devona's father and participate in the Guild Wars. For this all they would need to do is add Orr to the GW1 map. The terrain of pre-searing Ascalon and Kryta would not need to be changed. They could write the story, make the NPC's, missions, quests, and new armor, weapons, and costumes. Sans new skills or new professions, so they don't get a major headache trying to re-balance things. Voila! A new expansion that I would pay $60 for.

Edit2: Another thing players here have brought up is making PvP free to play. If they wanted to generate more income they could make PvP free to play for the masses, but limit the skills to only Prophesy skills and no elites, or just one. Then they could sell the Faction, Nightfall, and EotN skills in a package. In order to avoid bots, limit for free players the amount of faction points they get by about 60%. They want full rewards like players who bought the game? Buy the skill packages.... They could do so much to generate income, but I have a feeling they are getting orders from above to nix the game slowly.

I have just found this thread (haven't been on guru since start of November...soz)

I can't claim to know much about GW2 as I was away for a month during its release. I was also on a break from the game, and I don't see much point in buying now, seeing as I missed everything...

But an expansion for GW1? Not on the cards. I heard the GW1 live team has been reduced hugely-they wanted to produce a Guild wars beyond section on Elona, something to do with Palawa Joko, but that isn't coming-too many resources are being used on GW2 instead.

In my opinion, Gw1 won't see much action over the next year. Sure, we'll get the usual weekly updates (might as well cancel AB seeing as not even the bonus weekends can get more than 3 people there...) and festivals, but that's it. I loved Guild Wars Beyond-killing the White mantle etc. I haven't done Winds of Change as I wasn't playing when it was released, and I want GWaMM so I have been working on that, largely. I would love to do some stuff in Elona related to GW beyond, but unfortunately it will never happen.

I also doubt how they would create a storyline for a new expansion/campaign. I liked EOTN, but not sure how you can expand on it. I think movement of the worlds suggests that for 20 years after GW1, nothing big happens. The only thing I could think of was the establishment of Ebonhawke, but that's not exactly a big storyline...and it was something that was meant to happen during GW Beyond.

As for all these people making new characters...I don't know how you do it. I have 1 ele, 13 maxed titles, and after I get GWaMM on him (taking a long time...), I don't intend to do it ever again. Although saying that, I am a bit of a noob after 5 years in the game...still need other players to get through missions.

All i can say is, thank goodness for Zaishen quests. If it wasn't for Zaishen Mission and Zaishen Bounty quests, my hopes of getting groups together so I could actually progress in Guardian/Master of North titles would be dead. That's about the most alive the game is today-its pretty great seeing a nice group in an outpost because its the ZM. I have also been in my first 3 groups made entirely of players-somehow, something I never managed in my 5 years of playing the game initially.

GW2 won several game of the year awards. They were well deserved. Don't believe the haters GW2 expands the capacity of the devs in pretty much every way to make a much cooler experience.

Things have changed, but it's worth it for WvW, a bigger live team than ever with cool updates, and just massive amount of content. Honestly people still playing GW1 kind of scare me... like a record is skipping and they're just sitting there listening to it that way. The future isn't evil.

I'll bet just the thought of people firing up a game of Bejeweled or Spider Solitaire keeps you up at night, eh?

I'm guessing your perspective is, you hope there are no more GW expansions?
